I love my Crock Pot. It makes cooking easy...just put the ingredients in the crock pot and let it do it's magic. That's my style. So, when I saw this post for crock pot bread, I had to try it. I have never made bread in my life...all that kneading, and let it rise and knead it again...and wait some more, then cook it for awhile and wait...you get it.
I found this recipe posted on Facebook somewhere at the start of the COVID-19, stay at home stuff. I needed yeast. I've never made bread, so I had no yeast. I guess everyone had the same thought as I did...we're all home let's make bread! It took a couple of weeks for me to hit the jackpot, but finally I got the yeast and then I got to work (after leaving my groceries out in the car for 3 days that is). Quarantine life has it's ups and downs.
This is really a very easy recipe to make, and it's quick too! I warmed up my crock pot and then started on the bread. It's really just mix the ingredients, knead for 5 minutes, put it in the crock pot and then let it cook for 2 hours. Now, the bread doesn't get too brown and crusty on the top, so if you want it to be a little browner you just need a few minutes in the broiler and boom, delicious bread and you can even pronounce all the ingredients in it! (Does anyone else read the ingredient list on the foods we eat? Yeesh!)
Slow Cooker Bread Recipe
2 1/4 tsp. activated yeast 1 Tbs. sugar 1 1/2 c. water 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour 2 Tbs. olive oil 1 tsp. kosher salt (which I didn't have, so I used pink Himalayan salt...turned out fine) Line slow cooker with parchment paper. Combine yeast, sugar and water. Stir until combined.
Add flour, olive oil and salt. Stir until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for 5 minutes.
Roll into a ball and put in the slow cooker. Cook on high for 2 hours.
Transfer to a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes to get the top crispy.
Allow to cool for 20-30 minutes.
